Living in Tel Aviv for three and a half years had its moments of excitement and adventure, but it also came with its share of exhaustion and stress. Balancing two to three jobs left me feeling drained and questioning if this was truly the life I wanted to lead. One day, a unique opportunity unexpectedly came my way through a network of friends. A person living in Panama was seeking a yoga teacher for personal practice and to teach hotel guests. Additionally, they were open to hiring someone for various roles in their businesses. Intrigued by this opportunity and listening to my inner voice, I decided to take a leap of faith. I bought a ticket to Panama, ended my relationship, quit my job, and parted with my belongings. My heart knew that I was searching for a different way of living.
Upon my arrival in Panama, I spent a few days in Panama City before embarking on a journey to Playa Venao. Stepping onto the beach there was a truly magical moment. The vast, empty shoreline and majestic sunsets captured my heart. With only a handful of businesses along a 3-kilometer stretch of beach, it was everything I had hoped for. My initial plan was to serve as a yoga teacher, but my new boss had a surprise for me. He offered me the role of managing his hostel, "La Choza," as the current manager had suddenly departed. Despite my lack of experience in running a hostel, I eagerly accepted the challenge.
In addition to managing "La Choza," I began teaching weekly yoga classes both at the hostel and at the only yoga studio in Venao, a beautiful beachside hut managed by Sarah from "Eco Venao." Within just a week, I realized that a different life was possible. Although ending my relationship was tough, I found happiness in learning to surf, forming friendships with fellow beach workers, and establishing a fulfilling yoga practice. Teaching yoga to a diverse range of people, from young travelers to seasoned surfers, was a truly rewarding experience.
In just a few months, I had crafted a new life for myself that I deeply cherished. Practicing and teaching yoga, surfing the waves, connecting with people, and living by the beach was a dream come true. Many of the experiences I had during my time in Playa Venao remain among my fondest memories, and the connections I made continue to hold a special place in my heart. However, the rainy season eventually arrived, and as Playa Venao was a small place, most of the staff and tourists left during this period. My father and fellow travelers suggested I explore Costa Rica, particularly Montezuma. Intrigued by the prospect, I packed my bags, including my cherished surfboard, and set out for Costa Rica. My journey led me to Montezuma, a charming "hippie" village on the Nicoya Peninsula's Pacific coast. With its small, winding streets, a variety of unique beaches, and a handful of hotels and restaurants, it felt like home from the moment I arrived. The beauty and simplicity of Montezuma captivated me, and I knew I had found a place to stay.
