Pilates

Pilates is

Pilates is a form of a low-impact, mindful practice wherein each exercise is coordinated with the breath. It is a smart and different way of moving and exercising, based on key principles that when implemented, support healthy movement patterns and everyday functional activities.

When Joseph Pilates developed this system of exercises in the 1920s, it was initially named 'Contrology', alluding to this method’s primary focus on precision and form.

The foundational principles of the Pilates method are centering, concentration, control, precision, breath, and flow. All of these principles are symbiotically linked all the while each one individually illuminates a crucial aspect of the practice.

  • Centering- all movements originate at the core and flow from there to the extremities.

  • Concentration- the focus is the bridge between awareness and movement.

  • Control- maintaining complete muscular control throughout each entire movement.

  • Precision- every detail is important, and most important is the attention paid to the subtle details of every component of the movement.

  • Breath- moving mindfully with the breath creates not only a strong mind-body connection but serves to assist in mindful contracting muscles and working from the center outwards.

  • Flow- fluidity, grace, and ease are goals applied to all exercises together and individually; we aim to create a flow of energy in each exercise, one that connects all body parts, linking them together to a flow of exercises, an uninterrupted string of movement engaging every body part equally and inspiring symbiosis.

Each class begins with fundamental exercises and gradually progresses to more challenging variations, allowing you to get stronger, challenge yourself, and explore advanced movements at your own pace.
