As time progressed, I learned the art of efficiently managing my hostel while also carving out time for myself. In the initial year of hostel ownership, I juggled numerous responsibilities - from working long hours at reception to organizing guest activities and managing day-to-day operations. Letting go of control was challenging, but once I did, it brought a sense of liberation.
Home Practice
Moving to a cozy house in the jungle allowed me to focus on my passions: practicing yoga, surfing, and eventually teaching again. Offering donation-based yoga classes at a local studio became a fulfilling endeavor, allowing me to give back to a cause close to my heart - aiding stray animals. Teaching a diverse range of students brought joy and inspiration, despite initial nerves before each class.
However, owning a business in Central America as a young woman came with its own set of challenges. I faced skepticism and hostility from some locals, but found solace and strength in my daily yoga practice. Over time, the monotony of "the perfect life" began to set in, leading me to seek inspiration and guidance from my teacher, Maty, in Hawaii.
Meeting my partner, initially a guest at the hostel, brought new dynamics to my life. Balancing a long-distance relationship between Costa Rica and Switzerland proved challenging, especially amidst threats and boredom. Eventually, the reality of the situation weighed heavy on me, prompting thoughts of departure.
When the local mayor's threats became too much to bear, I knew it was time to move on. Despite my attempts to extend my contract, the owner's refusal served as a clear sign. I was ready to embark on a new chapter.
Stay tuned for the next installment of my journey as I navigate the uncertainties of leaving behind one chapter and embracing the unknown of the next.
