As we approach the New Year, the air seems to fill with talk of resolutions and self-improvement. Everywhere we turn, we hear about forming new habits, fixing perceived flaws, or striving to become a "better" version of ourselves. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting to grow or improve, I often find that in the quest to "fix" ourselves, we overlook something incredibly important: our strengths.

How often do we pause to recognize what we’re already good at? How often do we celebrate the qualities and skills that make us uniquely us? The answer, unfortunately, is often "not enough."

Focusing on your strengths can be transformative. When you identify what comes naturally to you—what you love doing, what makes you feel confident—you start to shine your own unique light in everything you do. It’s like tapping into your inner compass: when you operate from your strengths, you give yourself power and direction.

What Are Your Strengths?

Take a moment to reflect. What are you really good at?

Maybe you’re great with practical, hands-on tasks. Perhaps you’re a gifted communicator, effortlessly connecting with others. You might have a natural affinity for working with children or animals, or maybe math and problem-solving light you up. Whatever it is, you know there are certain things you excel at—those areas where you feel confident and know you "crush it."

These strengths aren’t random. They’re a part of you for a reason.

Make this Year the year of Your Strengths

This New Year, instead of focusing solely on what you want to "fix" about yourself, I challenge you to focus on what you’re already good at. Take those strengths to the next level.

  • Are you confident in teaching? Maybe it’s time to teach a bigger group, apply for a new role, or create a course or seminar.

  • Are you great at connecting with people? Consider joining a local community group, hosting events, or even starting your own online community.

  • Do you excel in your current role at work? Push yourself to take on more responsibility, or go for that promotion you’ve been thinking about.

When you focus on what you’re good at, you’re not just building on existing skills—you’re stepping into your full potential. By leaning into your strengths, you can make a bigger impact, feel more fulfilled, and enjoy the process along the way.

Your Strengths Are Your Superpower

Remember: the things you’re good at aren’t coincidences. They’re your superpowers, waiting to be unleashed.

So, this year, as you consider your resolutions, take a different approach. Instead of focusing only on what you want to change, spend time nurturing what makes you exceptional. Develop your strengths, and let them guide you to new opportunities and adventures.

What are your strengths? How will you amplify them in the coming year? Let’s celebrate the amazing things you already bring to the table—and make 2024 the year you shine brighter than ever.
